Product Description

Ketoconazole is synthetically derived from phenylpiperazine having a broad antifungal properties and potential antineoplastic activity. The compound works by inhibiting sterol 14-a-dimethylase which is a microsomal cytochrome P450-dependent enzyme which in turn disrupts the synthesis components of the fungal cell wall known as ergosterol. Ketoconazole is a colourless crystalline powder with a very low water solubility of 0.29 milligrams per litre. It is used to cure or prevent fungal infections such as coccidioidomycosis, histoplasmosis, chromomycosis, blastomycosis, candidiasis, and paracoccidioidomycosis. It is also suitable for the treatment of endogenous Cushing's syndrome. The chemical formula of the drug is C26H28Cl2N4O4 having an average molecular weight of 531.431 grams per mol.
