Fenofibrate is a chemical agent which belongs to the class of amphipathic carboxylic acids which is widely used in pharmaceutical industries for the preparation of drugs that are beneficial in the treatment of various health problems such as primary hypercholesterolemia, mixed dyslipidemia, severe hypertriglyceridemia. Fenofibrate functions by activating the peroxisome proliferator activated receptor alpha which alters the lipid metabolism to show its action. The chemical formula of this compound is C20H21ClO4 and a molecular weight of 360.831 grams per mol. The compound has a density of 164 grams per millilitre and is insoluble in water but shows a good solubility in solvents like acetone, ether, benzene and chloroform.
